Recognizing Red Flags and Medical Referrals in Lactation

In partnership with Kelly Martinkus, MD, IBCLC Central Florida Breastfeeding Medicine and Primary Care, PLLC

While many breastfeeding challenges can be addressed with foundational lactation support, some situations require clinical evaluation and timely medical intervention. This workshop equips lactation professionals, midwives and birth workers with the knowledge to identify red flags in both the breastfeeding parent and infant that go beyond typical concerns.

Participants will learn to distinguish between normal variations and signs that indicate possible underlying medical conditions, such as poor weight gain, anatomical abnormalities, metabolic disorders, or delayed onset of milk production. Through case studies and evidence-based guidelines, this session will help you support breastfeeding families and help them navigate unexpected challenges, ensuring that breastfeeding families receive the specialized care they need without delay.

Whether you're a lactation consultant, midwife or doula, this workshop will enhance your clinical knowledge and confidence in helping clients navigate complex lactation issues.
